Our Commitment

Westside MAPS exists to serve and connect professionals supporting the senior community of West Los Angeles - which makes an accessible website a matter of principle, not just compliance. We are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of ability or the technology used to browse it.

Standards We Aim For

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities, and more user-friendly for everyone.

What We've Done

  • Descriptive alt text on meaningful images throughout the site.
  • Visible keyboard focus indicators on links, buttons, and form fields, for anyone navigating by keyboard rather than a mouse.
  • Support for reduced-motion browser/OS settings - animations are minimized automatically for visitors who have that preference turned on.
  • Semantic, structured HTML (proper headings, landmarks, and labeled form fields) to support screen readers and other assistive technology.
  • A responsive layout that adapts to desktop, tablet, and mobile screens, and supports browser text resizing.

Ongoing Work

Accessibility is an ongoing effort, not a one-time fix. This website is actively being developed, and we continue to review and improve it as new features are added. If you encounter any barrier while using this site, we want to know about it.
